GOP DEPORTATION BILL WRONG FOR OUR FAMILIES, WRONG FOR OUR COUNTRY

GOP DEPORTATION BILL WRONG FOR OUR FAMILIES, WRONG FOR OUR COUNTRY

“Hands Off DACA & DAPA”

WASHINGTON, D.C- In reaction to House GOP’s passage of Rep. Yoho’s (R-FL) Executive Amnesty Prevention Act (H.R. 5759), Cesar Vargas, Director of the DREAM Action Coalition, issued the following statement:

“The President has solid legal authority to take action on immigration: hands off Republicans from the protection DREAMers and our families have.

There was no better feeling than seeing my 70 year-old mother happy and relieved knowing she would likely be one of the estimated 5 million undocumented immigrants who would qualify. With these new reforms, my mother and many in our undocumented community will no longer live in the shadows or fear being separated from their families.

Instead of responding with legislation to replace the President’s executive order, Republicans are choosing to cement their legacy as the anti-immigrant, anti-Latino Party. About 7 million undocumented immigrants were left behind from President Obama’s deportation relief, and the GOP is positioning itself to go after them. The failure of Congress to legislate not only required President Obama’s recent policy reforms but will also warrant further executive action in 2015 and beyond.”

The next election is a presidential one that will bring out a much more energized Latino electorate. We will remember what Republicans do and say today in 2016.
